The event was gleamed with the presentation of Life Time Achievement award conferred on Dr. S K Biswas for his outstanding contribution to Geosciences.
The event was organised to share our thoughts, views, ideas, experiences, technology, techniques and processes amongst the oil men so that we all move ahead together to attain energy security for India and an energy equilibrium for the world . 220 high quality presentations including plenary, Key Note speeches, oral and poster presentations were made in the conference technical program comprising 21 oral technical sessions. Like "GEO India2008" in this Conference & Exposition also, more than 150 post graduate geosciences students and Academia members from more than 20 Universities and IITs have actively participate in various technical activities like papers and posters followed by an active student-Academia interaction program. This has lead to culminate on strong emphasis for promoting creative talent of the budding geoscientists and provide them with ample opportunities for involvement in full scale E&P activity and also, to induce them for choosing geosciences as future career. This is an urgent need of the E&P industry worldwide to bring in the new talent in the industry to shoulder the growing responsibilities and to take baton from the outgoing seniors in large numbers.
Mr. N.K Verma, Coordinator of the GEO India 2011 elaborated on various initiatives which APG has undertaken to promote young budding geoscientists and also proposed the vote of thanks to all who made this event possible including organising committee member and students of Asian School of Media Studies. - Exploring deeper pays and basement. The conference was attended by more than 500 delegates including around 30 over sea delegates from USA, UK, Canada, Russia and Australia
There were nine key note addresses, twelve invited lectures, fourteen oral presentations and ninety nine poster presentations covering all the sub-themes of the conference. In addition to scientific deliberations a quiz competition was held for students on first day of the conference. Further, the students who had submitted papers on the themes, viz. Role of field geology in hydrocarbon exploration, Reservoir Geology and Sedimentary modeling, were invited and financially supported by the APG. Additionally, a separate session was held on Academia Industry interface which was chaired by Shri D. K. Pande, Director (Exploration), ONGC and was attended by distinguished academicians and leaders from the oil industry. Following decisions were taken during the meeting:
- APG should act as a nodal agency for providing courses related to petroleum geosciences
- The petroleum industry should contribute developing industry related syllabi for post graduate courses, and
- Industry should contribute by providing faculties for taking up 3-6 months courses in the universities.
The APG also organized four pre-conference short courses on the topics:
- Reservoir Geology (Faculty: Dr John Kaldi, University of Adelaide, Australia)
- Balancing Structure Cross Sections – An Essential Tool for Hydrocarbon Exploration (Faculty: Dr. D. K. Mukhopadhyay, IIT, Roorkee)
